In My Orbit with Justine Monsul of Monfefo

Growing up in New Jersey, Justine Monsul’s mother, Ewa, would always make her ginger tea with lemon and honey. She would slice up the root, let it simmer for 30-40 minutes and then add a glob of honey with lots of fresh lemon juice. It was amazing to see how a few simple ingredients can be so healing and nourishing. Inspired by her upbringing and her own wellness journey around the globe, Justine launched Monfefo in 2013 — an organic cold pressed root and juice company. Committed to making a positive impact, Monfefo aslo partners with organic farms in Peru and continues to commit to sustainable practices. We also love Monfefo’s mission and aesthetic that is equal parts etheric, earthy, and elegant. All of this is to say it's no surprise that Justine’s list of things orbiting her world also reflect an integrated approach to life that marries healing, nature, beauty, and connection. Check it out below.

Q: This is obviously a moving target — but what’s your current wellness philosophy?

A: My current wellness philosophy has been focused on the mind and bringing a loving awareness to the present moment. It’s easy to get stuck in our heads and think that we are our feelings. However the truth is that these emotions are more like clouds in the sky and they simply come and go. What has been very present for me lately is rather than trying to change emotions, it’s important to surrender to them, listen to the intelligence they have to bring, and then let them go. Surrendering to the moment is true freedom from suffering and allows us to feel more connected to our higher truth.

Q: Which foods are currently taking prime position in your kitchen pantry?

I created a new shot for Monfefo which I am currently testing, so I have a fridge full of them! I am very excited to share with everyone in the next few months.I also just made a batch of preserved pink lemons that are incredible and go great with my homemade chimichurri sauce. My favorite snack as of late has been roasted Japanese sweet potatoes with tahini along with the chimichurri sauce. I’ve also created a beautiful probiotic turmeric sauerkraut using our Monfefo turmeric shot!

Q: What’s your works-every-single-time mood booster?

Blasting music really loud in my house and dancing freely.

Q: The last thing you Googled?

Enneagram Symbolism Holy Mountain.

Q: Who — or what — can you count on to make you laugh?

My younger sister, Olivia!

Q: Is there a practice, item, or piece of wisdom you’ve kept from childhood that still holds meaning for you today?

The beauty of nothingness. The ability to just stare at the clouds and be present with the moment. I often feel this overwhelming sense and need to do something. I think it’s this American ideal that we need to be working to be successful. However, it is during the moments of relaxation when some of the greatest ideas have ever occurred. Einstein is the perfect example of that. During high school, he took a year off to simply do nothing. It was during that year that he came up with what is known today as one of the most beautiful theories of all time for its simplicity and truth, Einstein’s theory of general relativity. Thus it’s important to slow down the working mind so our creativity can flow and we can honor our true essence of being.

Q: When do you feel most beautiful?

When my heart is open and full.

Q: Are there any healers or teachers you have on speed dial?

Over the last 4 years, I have been so lucky to have taken a deep dive into my spiritual practice and get connected to so many special healers. One of my favorite acupuncturists is in New York City on Grand Street in Chinatown. Her name is Young Ja Yoo and what I truly love about her is that she has Western and Eastern teachings. She is a certified nurse, acupuncturist, and herbalist. She helped me get over a breakup with a single needle. If you want to dive deep into the realm of interconnectedness and the web of life then a dose of DMT with Yannina Thomassiny in Mexico City will drop you into that space in less than a minute. Her connection to the toad and journey down this path is truly so beautiful. I experienced a session with her in the beginning of 2021, which helped shape my journey of presence for 2021.Diane Hudock is a Renaissance woman but I know her best for her bio-tuning work. I recently have been exploring and learning about bio-tuning and how I can literally get my body back in tune just like a guitar. Just like our mind, our bodies can hold stored emotion that no longer serves us. Bio-tuning gets into your frequency and adjusts the tunes so you can be aligned more with your higher self. She also has an amazing podcast you should check out called Spiritual Geek Out. And just recently, we chatted with Diane Hudock on the Monfefo Podcast which you can check out on Spotify. This list just goes on to include body work healers, my life coach, integrative natural doctors, and so on! I just love learning about alternative forms of healing and hope to one day share this information more with my community. The path of healing is different for everyone and hopefully through awareness of these forms we can all find our own path of self love and healing.

Q: What’s your preferred movement practice?

Swimming in the ocean.

Q: Do you have a dream floating in your orbit that’s not yet realized?

During the height of the pandemic when so many kids stopped going to school, they stopped getting their daily lunch which led to many children going to bed hungry. It’s saddening that this is a reality in today’s world. I would really love to have Monfefo help raise money for children to get healthy and abundant food options in their schools. Hopefully, we can start this project this year.

Q: How does THE FULLEST align with you and fit into your life?

I really align with THE FULLEST Podcast and what you share with your community in regards to wellness. When I dove down the rabbit hole of The Amazing Liver and Gallbladder Flush by Andreas Moritz, I found David Avocado Wolfe and watched your video with him. Ever since then, THE FULLEST has had my heart.Justine Monsul is the creator and founder of Monfefo, an organic cold-pressed ginger and turmeric root juice company. The factory is located in Brooklyn, NY where all the juice gets cold-pressed and bottled up. Monfefo can be found in your local supermarket, Whole Foods, or online. Justine splits her time between LA and NY and has a deep fascination with natural remedies and alternative forms of healing.
