Scarlett Curtis
Meet Scarlett Curtis, the 23-year-old writer and activist that furthers our faith in Gen Z. At 14, Scarlett experienced back-surgery gone wrong that left her out of school and in a wheelchair. However, rather than brooding through her social feeds with a heavy side of FOMO, she turned to books (specifically feminist authors) to help her cope with her newfound chronic pain. Scarlett started a blog called Teen Granny, fell in love with writing, got a ton of professional gigs including The Guardian, Vogue, Elle, and… oh, just a weekly column for THE TIMES. She’s the author/curator of Feminists Don’t Wear Pink (and Other Lies) -- a collection of essays from women (such as Keira Knightley) on what feminism really means to them. And then, just to round it all out, after working as the Social Media Director for the UN’s Global Goals campaign, Scarlett started her own grassroots charity, Pink Protest. The lady doesn’t sleep!Scarlett is living proof that young women and their new brand of feminism are one of our best chances for a more fair, compassionate, and considered society. And, perhaps most importantly, she shows you can have a ton of fun while doing it.Referenced in this episode:
