We sat down with Elle Macpherson for some real talk on life, balance and her whole foods and organic supplement company, WelleCo. Read up below!
How does your background in modeling shape how you view health and wellness?
Elle Macpherson: When I was a teenage model, I felt like I needed everyone’s approval. I felt the pressure to be a certain size and have a certain look. These days, however, I have shifted my focus to feeling well and balanced. This involved taking a holistic approach, which included whole food nutrition, better sleep, mindfulness and listening to my body. I have developed an understanding that true beauty radiates from the inside out, which comes from a healthy lifestyle for the body as well as the mind.
What compelled you to start WelleCo?
My co-founder Andrea Horwood Bux and I wanted to start a premium wellness and beauty company based around the extraordinary alkalizing formula I was originally prescribed by Dr. Simone Laubscher, PhD. Together we could see a shift in priorities and an increasing importance on wellness not just in our lives, but on a profound level globally. We wanted to share these bio-live, plant-based supplements that had become intrinsic to our lives. It was when I started including these greens as part of my daily ritual that I finally felt like my body was able to absorb all the nutrients it craved. Like many others facing small or large health issues, I discovered the profound effect good nutrition can have on the way you feel and look. The future of beauty is from the inside.
Do you have a food philosophy that you adhere to?

Why is an alkaline diet so important?
I learned from my nutritional doctor, Dr. Laubscher, PhD, that by reducing acid-forming foods and replacing them with nutrient packed vegetables and fruits, the body can return to an alkaline state, rid itself of toxins and allow the digestive system and liver to rest and recuperate. For the body to work optimally, the pH of blood sits in a narrow range of between 7.35 and 7.45, which is slightly alkaline, and the body does everything it can to maintain this value.
What are some food must-haves in your kitchen?
My fridge is full of kale, spinach, sprouts, rocket, pulses, lentils, quinoa and vegetables from every color of the rainbow. I’ve also recently started making my own hemp milk that I mix with our Nourishing Protein for a homemade smoothie. Being plant-based protein is easily absorbed by my body, and helps me feel fuller for longer while boosting my metabolism.
How do you maintain balance between career, family and time for yourself?
Balance. That’s the key word in that question! For me it is both the key to happiness and wellness. When I was younger, someone told me to schedule your personal life with as much respect and commitment as you do your business life. I try to keep this in mind when planning my day, week and year ahead. Of course, this at times can be tricky. I am lucky that my family brings me such happiness and inspiration. With my businesses I love what I do and do what I love and this means work doesn't feel like work. Something we posted on our @superelixir Instagram recently is: “Happiness is the new rich, inner peace is the new success, health is the new wealth, and kindness is the new cool.”
What do you see for the future of WelleCo?
WelleCo’s vision from the start was to “create the things you wish existed” and to become a trusted premium wellness destination for everyone. Wellness isn’t defined by age or gender; it involves making the best choices for yourself and your family. Our offering has grown from our signature SUPER ELIXIR Alkalizing Formula and pure plant-based Nourishing Protein, and now includes clean whole food kids nutrition and our highly effective anti-anxiety Valerian tea.
